Crews move Sept. 11 survivors’ staircase
Whoever thought that a staircase would have any significant meaning? Well the staircase which remained in place at the site where the twin towers used to stand became thought of to many as a way to honor the memory of victims of 9.11.01. When the remains from the twin towers were cleared away, this single staircase remained. The staircase was the way thousands of people managed to survive what happened on that horrendous day. It was their escape route. After all these years, the staircase remained in tact. So who said that a staircase couldn’t have significant meaning?
Some felt that the staircase should remain there as a memorial to victims of the tragic event that occured Sept. 11. Not everyone felt the same though and on Sunday, the staircase was moved to a temporary home. It will remain there until it will become an attraction for the memorial and museum (for the World Trade Center) which will be opening on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. So even though it was removed from its original place, it will still be used to honor the memory of the Sept. 11 victims.
I’m personally happy that the staircase will be used in the memorial and museum. I’m glad that they did not choose to simply demolish it. That staircase played a very important part in what happened that day. If it hadn’t been for that staircase, many wouldn’t be alive. It shouldn’t just be discarded. So when the memorial and museum opens (hopefully on the 10th anniversary as stated), I hope to see that staircase there.
